There they told us that salad is produced next to the village. We wanted to have a look how they produce grocery over here and went to the farmland. The door was locked, only peach-palms to see, and far away we could see a guardian who was coming to us. He allowed us to enter and showed us round. Then we saw the salad!
It was produced under huge plastic roofs, water was running through large gutters. The guardian showed us plants of different timetable, only roots in the water enriched with chemicals. No direct rain, no soil. The water which was already used was collected in big containers. They told us, when the containers are full, the toxic water will be emptied into the jungle.
Few men were planting and harvesting the whole area, new tunnels were under construction because hydrocultur is a big business. The owner belongs to an industrialist family and has been mayor at the village already two times. But he is said to be interested only in his own profit and not to work for the inhabitants to make their life better.
