Animals in Sao Caetano

Sao Caetano is a village near Belem and known for crabs. Mangroves grow along the riverside, perfect for crabs. They should not be caught all year round to let them reproduce, but nobody cares.
Thousands of kilos of crabs are shipped daily to Belem and to other destinations.
The crabs are gathered in big nets where they cannot move any more. We saw one of the nets at the side of a road, full with dying or already dead crabs at a time where they should reproduce themselves. Who cares?

On the same road we watched a young couple driving very fast their motorbike with a closed paper box they threw into the bush. Without stopping they opened a bag a few meters later and threw a white cat over the next fence. We tried to catch the cat, but it ran away, crying badly.
Some days later we passed the road again and saw baby cats dying on the road, full of flies that already started eating them. Then we knew what was in the box!!

Sao Caetano itself was full of homeless dogs, very calm, waiting in the street for somebody who might feed them. Not aggressive, but very thin and all of them sick of a fur disease.
When we arrived a white dog, thin but healthy, was barking at the opposite side of the street. Our landlord told us that the owner of the dog just moved to another village and left the dog behind. Nobody cared for him, nobody gave him food. About a week later he was gone. We saw him later in the village, infected by that disease, only fur and bones, in front of a farmacy as if he knew that he needed help. But nobody took notice of him.

The property next to us belonged to a church. Around the church there was a "garden" or better to say grass and a small hut, where a big aggressive dog was locked all day long. We do not know if somebody fed him regularly, but he was barking all day and night. We were talking to the churchman and his family, they told us that the dog is well kept and someone always takes him for a walk and cares for him. Well, we were the neighbors for one month and have not noticed that.
By some reason they stopped their service and also the dog "care". The dog was locked and barked for its life. We think he did not even get water in his small hut. We managed to let him out and he ran around like crazy. A few days later the whole property was full of his shit, but nobody came and cleaned the area. When we left the dog was still very aggressive to everyone who passed by, but he was still living.
